Navarasa

Navarasa, meaning "nine emotions" in Sanskrit, is a concept deeply rooted in traditional Indian performing arts. It encompasses a range of human experiences and serves as a basis for portraying various characters and their emotional journeys on stage or screen. The nine emotions of Navarasa are Shringara (Love/Eroticism), Hasya (Laughter), Karuna (Sorrow), Raudra (Anger), Veera (Heroism/Courage), Bhayanaka (Fear/Terror), Bibhatsa (Disgust), Adbhuta (Wonder/Surprise), and Shanta (Peace/Tranquility). Understanding and effectively portraying these emotions is important for actors to connect with their characters, engage the audience, and convey the desired emotional impact. Mastery of Navarasa requires skill, versatility, and a deep understanding of human emotions.
